Team IP for the 2013 TD Five Boro Bike Tour

On Sunday May 5, 2013, a team of twenty cyclists will represent the Innocence Project at the TD Five Boro Bike Tour in NYC, raising awareness of wrongful convictions and fundraising to free the innocent.

On Sunday, May 5, 2013, a team of twenty cyclists will represent the Innocence Project at the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, biking to raise awareness about wrongful convictions and fundraising to help free the innocent.

Held annually the first Sunday in May, the TD Five Boro Bike Tour is America’s largest cycling event and the Innocence Project is thrilled to participate as a charity partner for the first time this year.  The event provides participants the unique and fun experience to bike through all five boroughs – a 40 mile, car-free ride for 32,000 cyclists. Click here for the route map.

Each member of the team commits to raising a minimum of $1,000 to support the Innocence Project and receives:

  • guaranteed entry into the TD Five Boro Bike Tour;
  • an Innocence Project team jersey;
  • early start pass;
  • breakfast at the start in Manhattan;
  • lunch at the finish in Staten Island;
  • team biking practice before the event;
  • personal fundraising webpage;
  • fundraising tips and support from IP staff.

    Bennie Starks was exonerated by DNA testing in January 2013 after spending more than 20 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. The Innocence Project accepted his case in 1996, making him the longest active client in Innocence Project history. Bennie is pictured here on the day of his exoneration, holding the son of a former Cardozo Law School student, Lauren Kaeseberg, who assisted with his case pro bono for many years.
